  A man killed his ex-wife and her boyfriend while at soccer game in Texas, officials said, sending players running off the field for cover.

The 42-year-old man was watching one of their sons play soccer when he spotted his pregnant ex-wife and her boyfriend , according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Armed with a silver revolver, he approached and shot them both multiple times in a parking lot near Matías Almeyda Training Center, northwest of Houston, authorities said.

“I was on the bench. I was watching the game. I heard the first gunshot. I looked around to see what was happening,” Angel Guerro told KPRC. “I thought it was like a car crashing or a wheel exploding or something like that. That’s when I saw the guy pick up the gun and started shooting again (at) both the woman and the man.”

A chaotic scene of players scurrying off the field and leaping over a fence for safety was captured on video obtained by KPRC.

The 35-year-old boyfriend died at the scene and the 28-year-old woman died at a hospital, officials said. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office initially said the woman was pregnant, but that had not been confirmed by a medical examiner as of Monday, KHOU reported.

Less than two hours after the shooting, the suspected shooter died in an apparent suicide from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, officials said. He was found with a silver revolver was next to his body, officials said.

The medical examiner identified him as Lucio Estrada Molina, KHOU reported. The woman and man killed in the shooting had not been identified Monday.

“I’m just surprised things happen like this,” Guerro told KPRC. “You don’t really expect it at a soccer game.”

And last February she strutted down the runway wearing a green Versace dress that she had debuted 20 years earlier. Indeed, J-Lo herself admitted that she feels more attractive in midlife. “I see pictures of myself in my 20s and go: ‘Oh, I look better now!’ I embrace who I am. I feel sexy, I feel youthful, I feel pretty sometimes,” she told US Weekly.

So, what is her secret? Partly, it could be down to her disciplined eating habits. Previously, Lopez has said she is mindful of what she puts in her body. “What you eat doesn’t just affect your body; it can also affect the way your skin looks,” she once told an interviewer. She starts her day with oatmeal with fresh berries, or a smoothie – her favourite is a medley of berries, Greek yogurt, cinnamon, honey, ice cubes, a squirt of fresh lemon juice and a scoop of protein powder.

According to her trainer and life coach Dodd Romero, J-Lo avoids processed foods and gets all her nutrients from “whole sources.” Her protein comes from egg whites in the morning, turkey, chicken and grass-fed beef, and she eats “a handful” of nuts each day for healthy fats. She prefers to steer away from vegetables that have high amounts of naturally occurring sugar, such as carrots, and instead opts for leafy greens like spinach and kale. She eats dinner early with her children – around 6.30pm – and the meal usually consists of a lean protein with vegetables and complex carbs like brown rice or quinoa. Throughout the day, she aims for at least seven glasses of water.

Guilty pleasures do exist in J-Lo’s world, but they are moderated. She allows herself one cheat day a week, which might include a chocolate chip cookie or chocolate ice cream – according to her ex-boyfriend Alex Rodriquez, they’re her weaknesses.

The star is also committed to getting a good night’s sleep. “The number one tip is to always get enough sleep,” she told InStyle US. “I can’t stress this enough. Ideally I would love to get nine or 10 hours of sleep, but either way, I always make sure I get at least eight.” Other no-gos for the singer are alcohol, caffeine and smoking.

A good diet and sleep pattern helps J-Lo to fuel her intense workout regime, which focuses on strength and muscle gain rather than weight loss. She told US Weekly that she works out three or four times a week – a mixture of strength training, HIIT, kickboxing, and ab-targeted moves. Refreshingly, though, she occasionally struggles to find the motivation. “Sometimes, I work too late the night before, and I’m like, ‘Ugh, I can’t do this.’ But I tell myself: ‘Just do it. It’s only an hour.’ It’s just talking yourself off the ledge of being a lazy bum,” she said.

Luckey also said she was "not surprised" to learn Gaetz was facing a sex-trafficking investigation.

Rep. Matt Gaetz's future sister-in-law said on TikTok this week that the Florida congressman's behavior was "weird" and "creepy" as the FBI and Justice Department investigate whether he broke sex-trafficking laws and had a sexual relationship with a minor.

Roxanne Luckey, 20, is the younger sister of Ginger Luckey, Gaetz's fiancée. Roxanne's TikTok account has since been made private, but Insider viewed recordings on Twitter and YouTube.

In a statement to The Daily Beast, Ginger Luckey said her sister had a history of "destructive behavior."

When reached for comment by Insider, a spokesperson for Gaetz said the congressman "supports his fiancée and her statement."

Ginger Luckey and Roxanne Luckey did not immediately respond to Insider's requests for comment.

What the videos say

In her first video, posted Sunday, Roxanne Luckey showed a New York Times article that said the DOJ was investigating whether Gaetz had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl. He's denied any wrongdoing.

The caption of the video said: "When a creepy old man tries to hit on you at the bar but your sisters engaged to a literal pedophile."

In a post on Monday, Luckey said Gaetz had pressured his friend to date her last summer, when she was 19 and already in a relationship. She described the friend as a divorced father who was around Gaetz's age, 39.

"This guy kept telling me, like, 'Oh, Matt told me I should ask you out, like, that we'd be great together,' yadda yadda. And I would just make jokes and be like, 'Haha, like, I'm 19. Like, that's weird.'"

Luckey said the friend went on to say "creepy things," like, "When you break up with your boyfriend, let me know, so you can have a real man."

Luckey said the friend later apologized, saying he'd asked her out "to get Matt off my back."

Luckey said that when she confronted Gaetz at Thanksgiving, he "started yelling at me and my mom."

"He called me a narcissist, was just 1,000% gaslighting me," she said, adding: "He went full lawyer on me. Like, 'I don't have to listen to you, I don't have to answer your questions.'"

Luckey said that after that episode, she was "unfortunately not surprised" to learn that Gaetz was facing a sex-trafficking investigation.

She also said she should have used the term "ephebophile," a person attracted to adolescents, to describe Gaetz instead of "pedophile," a person attracted to prepubescent children.

  A Texas man elbowed a bailiff who was attempting to handcuff him after the man was convicted of killing a San Antonio police detective.

Jurors deliberated about 25 minutes Monday before convicting Otis McKane, 40, of capital murder in the November 2016 fatal shooting of Detective Benjamin Marconi. Prosecutors were seeking the death penalty against McKane, with the trial's punishment phase set to begin Tuesday afternoon.

A bailiff was trying handcuff McKane when McKane elbowed him in the face before several officers pushed him into an adjacent room. District Attorney Joe Gonzales and defense attorney Joel Perez declined comment on the outburst. Gonzales said the bailiff was not seriously injured.

Marconi was fatally shot as he sat in his patrol car during a traffic stop that did not involve McKane, authorities said.

McKane, as he was being taken to jail following the shooting, told reporters that he "lashed out at someone who didn’t deserve it” because he was upset with the court system. McKane said he was angry because he had not been allowed to see his son during a custody battle.

Perez argued that Marconi had sent and received personal text messages moments before the traffic stop and was not officially on duty, therefore McKane could not be charged with capital murder and eligible for the death penalty.

In need of perspective, the woman turned to Reddit’s Am I the A****** forum asking if she took things too far. As her story goes, a friend from New York visited her in Seattle. The friend waxed poetic about how New York City has the best pizza. So the woman took her visiting friend to a certified Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana (AVPN) pizza shop. However, the friend complained the whole time that the food wasn’t authentic.

“I live a few blocks from a pizza place in Seattle that is certified by the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana — the Italian certification for ‘authentic’ Neapolitan pizza,” the Reddit poster said. “A friend of mine from college who is from New York came to Seattle and visited me. She wanted ‘good’ pizza, so I took her and some other friends to the place with the AVPN certification. Well, she went on and on about how it wasn’t authentic and wasn’t real pizza, and she should know because, quote, ‘I’m from New York, and we know what authentic pizza is like.'”

The Reddit poster tried to explain the pizza was authentic, just not the same kind they serve in New York. 

“I kind of just let her wind down and then said, ‘Do you think Italy has real pizza?” the Reddit poster explained. “Naples, Neapolitan, is that what you mean by authentic pizza?’ She hesitated and then said yes, that was where New York pizza was from. Then I showed her the flyer explaining that the pizza place that we were at had AVPN certification, and indeed used very specific flour and filtered/mineral water and flew in very specific mozzarella and tomatoes from Italy to maintain the certification. [And] that, while there are AVPN pizzerias in NYC, there are only a couple, and none of her favorites were on the list. She got really quiet. But when we got out of the restaurant, she said that I had tricked her. That I should know that what she meant by ‘real’ pizza wasn’t AVPN-certified pizza.” 

Reddit users thought the friend needed to chill about the pizza.

“She was being a pizza snob, and you just played her game,” someone said. 

“She sounds exhausting,” another responded. 

“She sounds very pretentious. Hopefully, she’ll reconsider being this way in the future,” a person commented.

  A woman facing multiple hate crime charges for a string of attacks against Asian Americans in New York City was held without bail over the weekend.

What she did: Maricia Bell, 25, was arrested on Thursday for allegedly attacking four Asian Americans, beginning in May. All incidents took place in Queens, according to NBC New York.

The first incident occurred in a parking lot on Kissena Boulevard on May 23. Bell allegedly punched a 24-year-old man in the face, took his glasses and ran off, as per CBS New York.

The second incident took place at a grocery store on Parsons Boulevard on June 16. Bell allegedly approached a 34-year-old woman, asked her, “Why are you looking at me?” and punched her in the back of the head, WABC reported.

The third incident occurred at the corner of Parsons Boulevard and 72nd Avenue on July 11. Bell allegedly approached a 63-year-old woman, slapped her face and removed her mask, AP News noted.

The fourth and most recent incident took place on 71st Avenue and Parsons Boulevard. Bell allegedly approached a 75-year-old woman -- who had been collecting bottles -- and struck the back of her head with a hammer, leaving her with a laceration, according to Sunnyside Post.

The charges: Bell was charged with robbery as a hate crime, assault as a hate crime and grand larceny as a hate crime, as well as aggravated harassment and criminal possession of a weapon, according to Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz. She faces up to 25 years in prison, if convicted.

“Racism is immoral and unacceptable -- acting on one’s prejudice is a crime. This defendant must answer for allegedly attacking four different victims -- all people of Asian descent -- during sudden, violent outburst(s) of rage here in Queens County,” Katz said in a statement.

Bell was ordered held without bail on Saturday, the New York Post reported. The 25-year-old confirmed that she was the woman captured in screenshots of surveillance videos at three of the crime scenes.

The fourth victim reportedly needed seven stitches to her laceration. Bell told the police, “I was there. She was begging for money. I hit her.”

  Salmon in the Columbia River were nearly roasted to death when water temperatures rose during the Pacific north-west’s record-shattering heatwave, according to a conservation group that has documented the disturbing sight.

In a video released on Tuesday by the non-profit organization Columbia Riverkeeper, a group of sockeye salmon swimming in a tributary of the river can be seen covered in angry red lesions and white fungus, the results of stress and exposure to extreme temperatures.

The salmon had been traveling upstream in the Columbia River from the ocean, to return to their natal spawning areas, when they unexpectedly changed course, explained Brett VandenHeuvel, the executive director of Columbia Riverkeeper. He described the sockeye as veering off to the Little White Salmon River, a tributary of the Columbia River where the video was recorded, in an effort to essentially “escape a burning building”.

On the day the video was recorded, the river had hit just over 70F (21C), a lethal temperature for these anadromous fish if they are exposed to it for long periods. The Clean Water Act prohibits the Columbia River from rising over 68F (20C).

VandenHeuvel compared the situation to a person trying to run a marathon in over 100F (38C) temperatures.

“The difference is that this isn’t recreation for the salmon,” he said. “They have no choice. They either make it or they die.”

The salmon in the video won’t be able to spawn in the tributary, and are expected to die from disease and heat stress.

This scene is yet another example of the tragic toll taken by the recent heatwave, which killed hundreds of people across the Pacific north-west and Canada, probably caused more than 1 billion marine animals to perish, and contributed to fires across the region.

But VandenHeuvel said the incident went beyond the heatwave, and was exacerbated by the many dams that for decades have held up the water flows across Washington state and beyond, and thus increased water temperature. Climate change and the recent deadly heatwave simply threw the situation to the extreme.

A videographer captured the scene for the Columbia Riverkeeper earlier this month as part of the organization’s effort to try to keep track of the salmon’s progress in the heat.

VandenHeuvel said it was too early to say exactly how many salmon have died as a result of the hot water. But there are tens of thousands of sockeye still in the Columbia and Lower Snake rivers, and so as these waterways grow hotter over the next two months, many more fish could die. And given that Snake River sockeye are already considered endangered, the death of just a small section of their population could have dire effects.

VandenHeuvel recalled traveling out to the area in the days after the video was recorded, and said he saw salmon suffering in a similar way in other tributaries. He even spotted several sockeye carcasses downstream.

“It’s heartbreaking to watch animals dying unnaturally,” he said. “And worse, thinking about the cause of it. This is a human caused problem, and it really makes me think about the future.”

  The evidence-free claim that Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick died from injuries suffered in the Jan. 6 riot reemerged Tuesday during the first day of hearings in the Democratic-led House select committee's inquiry of the event.

Sicknick, 42, died the day after responding to the riot, which broke out as lawmakers counted electoral votes to affirm President Joe Biden’s victory over Donald Trump. In the days that followed, news outlets reported the 13-year veteran was beaten with a fire extinguisher, but the medical examiner concluded Sicknick suffered two strokes and that his death was from “natural” causes.

Still, committee Chairman Bennie Thompson, a Mississippi Democrat, said in his opening remarks that “seven people lost their lives” in the riot. The number would appear to include Sicknick, two officers who died by suicide in the following days, a protester shot by police, two protesters who suffered fatal heart attacks, and another who died of a suspected drug overdose.

Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn also perpetuated the claim regarding Sicknick in his remarks.

“I’d like to take a moment of my time to ask for a moment of silence for my fallen colleague, Officer Brian Sicknick, who died from injuries he sustained in the line of duty defending the Capitol of our beloved democracy,” Dunn said.

And Capitol Police Officer Aquilino Gonell said that “as a result of that day, we lost officers — some really good officers.”

The only person killed during the riot was Ashli Babbitt, a 35-year-old Air Force veteran and Trump supporter who was shot by an as-yet unidentified Capitol Police officer as she attempted to climb through a broken window near the Speaker's Lobby. The officer was not charged.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, led by Francisco Diaz, told the Washington Examiner in April that Sicknick’s death was "natural" and caused by two strokes. The medical examiner said Sicknick was sprayed with a chemical substance at about 2:20 p.m. on Jan. 6, collapsed at the Capitol at about 10 p.m., and was taken to a local hospital. He died at about 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 7. Although Diaz told the Washington Post that Sicknick suffered neither an allergic reaction to chemical irritants nor any injuries, he said “all that transpired played a role in his condition.“

The medical examiner’s office directly noted that the term “natural” is “used when a disease alone causes death” and that “if death is hastened by an injury, the manner of death is not considered natural.”

BIDEN CLAIMS CAPITOL RIOTERS KILLED SICKNICK

In its initial January statement on Sicknick, the Capitol Police said he "was injured while physically engaging with protesters" and that he "was taken to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.” The Capitol Police released a statement after the medical examiner’s findings were made public, saying it accepted the findings but noting it considered his death as occurring in the line of duty.

In the days following the Capitol riot, Metropolitan Police Officer Jeffrey Smith and Capitol Police Officer Howard Liebengood both died by suicide. Their families want their deaths to be recognized as having come in the line of duty.
